No community is safe from post office closures.

That is the message coming from local communities ahead of a major rally against the planned closure of 21 post offices in the North West.

Ballinfull, Dromard, Gurteen and Monasteradan are set to close in county Sligo, four including Killargue and Newtowngore are to close in Leitrim while 13 including Dunkineely are earmarked for closure in Donegal.

A number of public meetings took place last week and some of those campaigners will join forces for Saturday’s protest.

The rally will gather on the Connaughton road at half past one on Saturday marching down to the GPO for 2pm on O’Connell street.

One of the organisers, Sinn Fein Councillor Thomas Healy says this is not just about post office closures but about all rural services:
