Increased VAT rate for hospitality industry should ‘apply only to Dublin’

A Donegal councillor says a proposal to increase the VAT rate should come in only for Dublin.

The Government is proposing to increase the VAT rate from 9% to 13.5% for businesses selling accommodation.

Councillor Micheal Naughton says Donegal and the north west cannot be compared to Dublin, which is experiencing a huge boost in tourism revenue.

And he says any increase in the northwest would represent another attack on rural Ireland.
