Fears two post offices in North Sligo could close

There are fears a second post office in North Sligo is facing closure.

It’s Cliffoney post office and follows concern already about the future of Ballinfull post office, as well as Monasteraden in South Sligo, and Dunkineely, in County Donegal.

An Post has confirmed that Churchill Post Office, also in Donegal, will close in two weeks time.

Sligo-Leitrim TD, Marc MacSharry says the Government must step in to ensure the fabric of rural communities is preserved by supporting the keeping open of local post offices.

A public meeting is to take place in Cliffoney Hall on Thursday night at 8 o’clock to discuss the future of the post office service in north Sligo.

Meanwhile, a Sligo councillor says tomorrow, Tuesday, is ‘a pivitol day’ for the future of the post office network.

July 31st is the deadline set by An Post management for postmasters to accept a voluntary redundancy package.

Sligo Sinn Fein Councillor Thomas Healy says it would be very unfair if North Sligo were to lose two post offices:
