Motorists going to Coney Island, off Sligo coast, urged to be cautious

Gardai are advising people to be cautious when travelling to an island off the Sligo coast.

It’s after a vehicle got stuck in soft sand at the weekend while on its way back from Coney Island.

Among the passengers in the car was a pregnant woman.

But with the help of gardai and local people, the vehicle was towed to safety before the tide came in.

However, gardai say this is common occurrence, and they urge people travelling to Coney Island to stay close to the route markers and to check the tide times.
