Varadkar: Farmers chose to be in Glas and get paid to honour the deadlines



The Taoiseach says the date for cutting hay under the Glas scheme won’t be brought forward.

The date is set at the first of July, next Sunday but in the Dail this week rural TDs from all areas called for the date to be brought forward in case the weather breaks.

But Taoiseach Leo Varadkar pointed out that farmers can cut grass but those in Glas get paid over €300 a hectare to hold off cutting until the first of July.

He says farmers chose to sign up to this scheme and should honour the deadlines:
