OPW and council officials to meet on Rathbraughan flood project

Officials from Sligo County Council and the Office of Public Works are expected to meet before the end of July to decide how to proceed with a flood relief scheme in an estate in Sligo town.

On a number of occasions recently, flooding has hit the Rathbraughan area, with houses in the Woodlands Estate and Mowlam Nursing Home having been affected.

Funding for the scheme was announced earlier this year; the amount is expected to be €260,000.

The scheme will then have to be designed, followed by the planning process and eventual construction.

Officials from Sligo County Council and the OPW inspectors have already spoken about the project.

However, the coming meeting between the council and the OPW is expected to decide whether the council or the OPW will be the lead body on the scheme, as Independent Councillor Marie Casserly tells Ocean FM News:
