Fianna Fail dominate Cathaoirligh roles in south Donegal and Sligo



As the Annual General Meetings of the County Councils continues across the region, Fianna Fail is expected to take all of the positions of Cathaoirligh in the county Sligo Municipal District areas today.

The AGMs for the County Council as well as the two Municipal Districts are taking place.

Enniscrone Councillor Joe Queenan has been elected the Chairperson of the Ballymote Tubbercurry West Sligo Municipal area earlier today.

While Martin Baker is expected to be the new Cathaoirleach of the County Council and the party’s Rosaleen O’Grady is expected to be elected the new Mayor of Sligo this afternoon.

In county Leitrim, Independent Councillor Felim Gurn is expected to take over from Fine Gael’s Frank Dolan as the new Cathaoirleach of the Manorhamilton Municipal District.

Meanwhile, in county Donegal, the new Cathaoirligh have been settling into their new roles and outlining their priorities.

Fianna Fail Councillor Seamus O’Domhnaill took up his new role as Cathaoirleach of the County Council last week.

He says housing, tourism and investment in the county will be his priority:

While, the new head of the Muncipal District of Donegal is also a Fianna Fail Councillor.

Mícheal Naughton took up the role last week and says roads will be one of his priorities.

He says a decision on how much extra funding the Pettigo road will get should be known by the end of this month.

He says as the main route for people from South Donegal travelling to Dublin or Belfast, the Pettigo to Laghey road is a priority for him:
