Donegal one of the worst counties for ensuring waste is properly regulated



A new report claims County Donegal has one of the worst records in the country when it comes to dealing with waste.

A six-months RTE undercover investigation has found Donegal is the poorest performing council in Ireland for its inspection rate of its facilities and for its investment in waste services.

The programme will be broadcast on RTE One Television tonight at 9:35.

The investigation also found that in 2016, Donegal had just two members of staff to regulate 44 waste permits in its area.

However, the council says RTE’s analysis does not reflect all of its efforts.

The council added that it had secured funding to hire extra staff and says it’s committed to addressing waste management issues.

But Donegal Independent Councillor Tom Conaghan has defended the Council and says it carries out important work with local groups in dealing with litter:
