Protest taking place in Sligo today in relation to the Cervical Check controversy

A protest in relation to the Cervical Check controversy is taking place in Sligo today.

The head of the HSE Tony O’Brien stepped down earlier this week in the wake of the scandal.

The protest is organised for 3pm today on O’Connell Street.

Organisers say to bring a pair of knickers and to write their name on it which will then be left outside City Hall on Quay Street to show their support for all the women who have been affected.

Dr. Padraig McGarry, Chairman of the GP Committee of the IMO is worried that the events of the past two weeks could lead to less women coming forward for testing.
