Councillor says Irish Water’s 40% discount for businesses on ‘Boil Water’ notice is not enough

The vicechairman of Sligo County Council says the 40% discount that Irish Water is offering to businesses affected by a boil water notice is not enough.

The notice, affecting up to 15,000 customers on the Lough Talt Supply Scheme, is now entering its third month.

Areas affected include the towns of Tubbercurry and Ballymote and a large rural hinterland including the villages of Annagh, Aclare, Bellaghy, Bunnanaddan, Curry, Lavagh, Ballanacarrow, Carroweden, Kilmacteige, Quarryfield and Coolaney.

It also includes customers supplied by the Ogham Group Water Scheme in County Sligo and Cloontia, Doocastle, and the Moylough scheme in Mayo.

South Sligo Fianna Fail Councillor Keith Henry says Irish Water’s discount does not cover extra costs on businesses, particularly those in the food, pub and hospitality sectors.
