Primate of All Ireland says young people under increasing pressure not to have children

A senior figure in the Cathloic Church says that young people are being put under increasing pressure NOT to get married and have children.

Primate of All Ireland Eamon Martin claims the situation is being made worse by employers who expect them to travel and work long unsociable hours.

In a speech the Archbishop of Armagh said young people are facing considerable pressure to resist what he called becoming ‘ tied down’ with marriage and children – while being surrounded by a contraceptive, anti-birth mentality.

Archbishop Martin says employers are also adding to the pressure with young people expected to be “flexible, able to travel and work long, unsocial hours”.

The Archbishops made the speech in Rome yesterday ahead of the Pope’s visit here in August.
