Lack of trust on cancer services in Sligo still evident



The Breastcheck controversy in Sligo town this week reveals the lack of trust that is still felt in county Sligo when it comes to cancer services.

Despite reassurances from Breastcheck that they are not withdrawing a service from the county but simply have to move it from Sligo town to Collooney, people’s anger on the issue is evident.

Long-time cancer campaigner in Sligo Lily McMorrow says she has a real fear that the few cancer services that remain in Sligo will be lost to the county.

She says that it is very important for the Breastcheck to remain in Sligo’s main urban centre and while Collooney is just 10 minutes out of town it is not as accessible as the town location.

She says she’s not reassured by the statements from the Health Authorities:
