Harps could be without up to seven players for Athlone trip

Finn Harps will continue their busy schedule of games with an away trip to Athlone Town tomorrow evening (kick-off 7.45). After losing to Drogheda Utd on Monday night, manager Ollie Horgan knows that Harps must get back on track immediately to keep in touch with the leading teams. On paper Horgan’s outfit will be expected to win at the Athlone Stadium but the boss rightly cautions against that conclusion.

“Yes Athlone have lost all four league games so far this season. That will make them all the more determined to get something from the game against us. They will be fresher having had no game on Monday. When out lads step on to the pitch most of them will have had two lengthy bus trips in the space of four days. So I just hope that physically and fitness wise we can match them. No way is it a given that we will win in Athlone. We were expected to have it easy against Wexford Youths last Friday night but we just struggled to a 1-0 victory. Our lads have to deliver for the full game in order to get the three points,” Horgan said.

Gareth Harkin, B.J. Banda and Liam Walsh will all be missing again due to respective knee injuries. Central defender Keith Cowan is suspended after receiving a straight red card on Monday night in Drogheda. Horgan also has doubts over Ciaran Coll, Jesse Deevers and Tommy McBride who have been affected by a bug that hit the squad over the weekend. Coll and Deevers weren’t fit to travel to Drogheda and all three missed training on Wednesday night.
