Reform of Property Tax system needs to consider rural homeowners

A Sligo/Leitrim TD says there’s a need for a new overall rethink of the entire property tax system.

Sinn Fein Deputy Martin Kenny was commenting following reports that Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy hopes to prevent large property tax increases in future by bringing thousands of more households into the net.

Deputy Kenny says other souces of tax needs to be found rather than going back to the already overburdened household sector.

And he says, while property prices and sales may be on the increase in and around Dublin, that’s not the case in rural areas such as Leitrim, Sligo and Donegal.
