Weather Updates for the North West: Status Yellow warning for the North West



5pm update: 

The North West counties of Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim are under a Status Yellow warning by Met Eireann. 

The AA is reporting that Snow is making driving conditions difficult along the N4 in Sligo around Casltebaldwin and Ballinafad.

Gardaí in Leitrim say that snow is making driving conditions difficult across the county and particular care is needed on the N4

3pm update:

Commuters in the North West are urged to go online and check the latest travel information before going for a bus or train this evening or tomorrow.

Already Irish Rail and Bus Eireann are announcing the cancellation of services due to the weather.

Bus Eireann says its twenty past three service from Letterkenny and its half past three service from Sligo are cancelled.

The half three service from Ballina is also cancelled for today.

Irish Rail has been reporting significant delays to and from Sligo all day as a result of the weather in the east and it says that after the 11am service tomorrow all trains will be cancelled until Friday when the situation will be reviewed again.

People are advised to keep an eye on the Bus Eireann and Irish Rail websites or to follow them on twitter for the latest updates.

Meanwhile,

The HSE is advising anyone with a hospital, GP or health centre appointment today please contact the facility to ensure it is still taking place and do not make any unnecessary journeys.

SLIGO COUNTY COUNCIL ROADS/WEATHER  NOTICE 12PM WENESDAY

Weather warnings:

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) has issued a notice today, Wednesday, advising road users to take extreme care as many roads in parts of the country are treacherous and unpassable following heavy snowfalls overnight.

The RSA is advising all road users to check national and local weather forecasts and traffic reports before making any journey and seriously consider postponing or cancelling their trip if the conditions in their area, along the route or destination are severe.

Met Éireann has issued a status RED warning for counties Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Wicklow and Meath, and an ORANGE warning is in place for heavy snow showers today, tonight and during tomorrow for  a number of Southern counties.
