The head of the Sligo Business Improvement District has welcomed the designation of Sligo as a regional growth centre.
Finbarr Filan says it’s a major achievement considering that initially, Sligo hardly featured in the draft plan.
But he says that in the document launched last Friday, Sligo is mentioned 24 times.
He says Sligo now has a legal basis on which it can lobbby the government ‘for things to happen.’
