Drumcliffe/Rosses Point GAA Club Notes

The achievements and dedication of our juvenile hurlers and footballers were acknowledged at a special event in Rathcormac Hall last Friday evening. Players, mentors and family members gathered for our celebration evening. Our thanks to Sligo GAA hurling officer Benny Kenny, and our senior club players Brian Óg Murphy and Paul Logan who presented the various medals on the night. Thanks also to everyone who helped out with the catering and entertainment duties. A gallery of pictures from our Juvenile GAA celebration is available on the club’s Facebook page.

Hard luck to our various club players who were involved with the Sligo men’s and women’s county teams which lost their opening national league games against Armagh and Clare respectively last Sunday.

A number of our underage club players enjoyed national and provincial sporting success last week. Congrats to Rosses Point’s Josh Henry who helped Sligo Grammar School win an All-Ireland U16 basketball title at the National Arena in Tallaght. There were also seven DRP players involved with the Summerhill College juvenile gaelic football team which won the Connacht Juvenile ‘A’ league title after a 0-14 to 2-2 success over St Jarlath’s of Tuam. The players involved were: Ciarán O’Reilly, Ciarán Smith, Hugh Keaney, Ben Kelly, Cian Oates, Desmond Gillen and Josh Brady.

Well done to our senior club footballer Jamie Gillen who was part of the UCD Sigerson panel which beat Maynooth University in the opening round of the competition last Tuesday.

Our monthly club meeting for January takes place this Monday 29th in Oxfield at 9pm.

Drumcliffe Handball Club coaching continues every Saturday morning in the Oxfield centre. New players are always very welcome. Open to boys and girls aged 6 upwards. See the handball club’s Facebook page for details of session times.
