First-time buyers need to show they can afford a mortgage before thinking of buying a house



A Sligo financial broker says anyone thinking of buying a house needs to show that they can save and that they can afford the mortgage.

It follows controverisal comments by the taoiseach this week for implying that first time-buyers simply need to emigrate to save money for a house or borrow from their parents

Shane Brehony is a financial broker from Oates Brehony in Sligo.

Speaking on North West Today, he said it can be difficult to get on the property ladder.
