Success for Sligo swimmers at national finals



Twelve athletes from Co Sligo Swimming Club put in a great performance this weekend at the Irish Short Course Championships, a four day national swimming competition located in Lisburn, Co Antrim.  The weekend’s highlight involved another Connacht Senior Record for Sligo in the Mixed 200m Medley Relay with, Danielle Farrell, Carrie McDaid, Peter Mooney and Eanna O’Hara proving themselves a powerful team.

 Eanna maintained a very positive performance throughout the weekend,  securing a silver medal in the 200m Breast Stroke in a PB time of 2:22:65, with Ronan Anderson not far behind finishing in 4th position with a PB time of 2:23:74.  Ronan achieved a bronze medal in the 400m IM with a 7 second PB time of 4.30.17.  He also secured a PB in 50m Backstroke which he swam in a time of 27.35 seconds.

Overall Sligo swimmers achieved PBs (personal best performances) in almost two thirds of all their swims and made 20 finals, indicating great progress for Sligo at this premier event on the short course calendar. Sligo was one of just five Connacht clubs (out of 16) to achieve podium positions.  Sligo’s swim team included: Ronan Anderson, Eanna O’Hara, Danielle Farrell, Carrie McDaid, Maria Lyons, Joshua Fortune, Anthony Maher, David Woods, Jade Murphy, Odhran O’Hara, Peter Mooney, Wiktoria Jedrol, Sean Keaney.
