Your Club Your Country – Grand Draw 2017
The IRFU along with their community rugby partner, Ulster Bank are once again running the fundraising initiative Your Club, Your Country Grand Draw. Last year, over €628,000 was raised by rugby clubs across Ireland. All the prizes are provided by the IRFU and their family of partners, which means that Sligo RFC are free to sell up to a maximum of 1000 IRFU Grand Draw tickets and retain 100% of the amount from those sales to support the club. There are ten amazing prizes, ranging from a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Australia to follow the Ireland Rugby Team on their Summer Tour 2018, to a €5,000 holiday voucher, to VIP 6 Nations and Galway Races Packages.
All 100 books of tickets have been distributed and members are reminded that the deadline for returning the tickets is next Sunday, 18th November.
Sligo Ladies make their 2017 debut
The Sligo Ladies rugby team have been training hard over the past few months and they had a friendly game against Carrick RFC last week. Instead of the traditional 15-a-side game, they played 8-a-side and the game was fast and free-flowing, with Carrick coming out victorious, 10 tries to Sligo’s 6. Training continues on Tuesday nights from 7-8.30pm. All are welcome and no previous experience is necessary. Anyone interested can just show up at the club for training or contact Sligo RFC through the Facebook page or website.
Treble Header a great success
Last Saturday saw our 1st XV have a comprehensive win over Tullamore RFC. Another large crowd attended, among them, members from the senior rugby teams of Summerhill College, Sligo Grammar School, Belvedere College and Blackrock College, who had played challenge games earlier that day. The clubhouse was packed afterwards, in anticipation of the Ireland V South Africa Autumn Series game and the game was available on the big screen in the hall, as well as the other two televisions in the lounge area.
Thanks to all involved in serving behind the bar and those on burger duty outside, which all helped to make it an enjoyable evening, culminating in the Ireland V Denmark World Cup Qualifier.
