UPDATE: 11am:
Gardai are investigating the cause of a crash on the N4 outside Carrick-on-Shannon this morning.
The road was blocked after three cars collided on the stretch between Carrick Golf Club and the town.
Diversions were put in place for a time but traffic on the route has now returned to normal.
Gardai state noone was seriously injured but some of the occupants of the cars were taken to hospital as a precaution.
8:30am:
The N4 just outside Carrick-on-Shannon is now closed following a three car collision just before 8 o’clock this morning.
The road is closed between Carrick and the Golf Club.
The emergency services are at the scene and have now closed the road with diversions in place.
People are warned of lengthy delays both come from Dublin and from the Sligo side this morning.
