Colgan expected to make public statement over harassment allegations

The former artistic director of the Gate Theatre is expected to make a public statement after being accused of harassment.

Over the past 10 days, seven women have come forward to accuse Michael Colgan of inappropriate behaviour.

Colgan has pulled out of a number of public appearances in recent days including one at the Allingham Arts Festival in Ballyshannon later this week.

In a statement on the festival’s website it states ‘Michael Colgan has decided to withdraw from this year’s programme as he believes his continued involvement could distract from the festival.’

The Gate theatre’s board has confirmed it’s appointing a professional HR advisor to deal with any more complaints of sexual harassment and there are also calls for an independent inquiry.
