Some North West farmers still waiting on last year’s GLAS payments




Some farmers in the North West are not only still waiting for this year’s GLAS payments but some are still waiting for the 2016 payments.

The scheme aims to focus on the rural environment, focusing in particular on the preservation of various habitats and species, preventing climate change and improving water quality.

However, Leitrim Fianna Fail Councillor Paddy O’Rourke says outstanding payments are putting undue hardship on farmers.

At next Monday’s meeting of Leitrim County Council he will call for pressure to be put on the Agriculture Minister Michael Creed to put the necessary resources in place to deal with the backlog:
