Moran says provincial championships more important because of the Super 8s

Player of the year nominee Andy Moran says that the provincial championships will be even more important next season with the dawn of the Super Eight.

The draws for next year’s championships were made last night, though it was already pre-determined that Leitrim will start against New York and Sligo will face London.

Should they get through those ties, Leitrim would take on holders Roscommon, while Sligo would face the winners of the quarter-final between Mayo and Galway.

Moran was visiting his former college, IT Sligo, this week and told Ocean FM that Mayo are determined to win back a title last won in 2015.

Elsewhere last night, Donegal were drawn in the preliminary round of next year’s Ulster Championship.

Declan Bonner’s side will be at home to Cavan in the tie, with the winners facing into a quarter-final against Derry.

Down or Antrim will await in the semi-finals.

Rory Gallagher’s first championship game in charge of Fermanagh will come against Armagh on the other side of the draw, with the winners to face wither reigning champions Tyrone or Monaghan.
