Scanlon: ‘Tenant Purchase Scheme discriminates against those on social welfare’

A Sligo/Leitrim TD says the requirements to qualify for the Tenant Purchase Scheme are too strict for people on social welfare.

In January of 2016, The TPS was created to help local authority tenants buy their own house.

However, TD Eamon Scanlon says that one of the requirements to avail of the scheme is to have an earned income of €15,000.

A review of the scheme was carried out earlier this year and the report is now with Minster for Housing, Eoghan Murphy, and Deputy Scanlon is asking that this be published.

Speaking to OceanFM, Deputy Scanlon says that it is discrimination that people are being excluded from owing their own house.
