Gardai fed up with ’empty promises’ on new HQ for Sligo



Gardai in Sligo have not ruled out a walk-out from the station in Sligo town if their concerns over Garda safety are not met.

Garda Representative Association spokesperson in Sligo Ray Wims says members are totally disillusioned with the empty promises by government over the much-talked about new HQ.

His comments come following confirmation in the Dail this week that efforts to secure a site are ongoing despite promises by OPW Minister Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran that this would be announced three weeks ago.

A walk-out was planned by members at the station last October over health and safety issues but it was abandoned on the promise by senior Garda management to provide the interim facilities.

While cell facilities have been closed, Gardai state they are still forced to work with no shower, locker or dryer facilities and that even basic water dispensers have not been provided.
