Drugs now a problem everywhere, including rural areas



Drugs are a problem in all parts of Sligo and Leitrim not just in urban areas.

That’s according to the head of the Sligo Leitrim Divisional Drugs Unit who says it’s now a nationwide problem and can no longer be linked uniquely to towns and cities.

Speaking to Ocean FM News at a Joint Policing Committee meeting at the Coachhouse Hotel in Ballymote on Friday, Detective Sergeant Niall Davey said that a community-based approach is the way they are tackling this difficult problem.

He says have had success through increased searches and detections including just in the last week in Ballymote itself.

He said they have also had success in areas like Gurteen, Geevagh and Enniscrone and he’s reassuring people that they are very much focused on all areas:
