1916 memorial taking place in Riverstown today



A special Defence Forces ceremony will take place in Riverstown, Co Sligo, today to remember those who took part and died in the 1916 Rising.

It’s being organised by the former C Company of the old 19th Infantry Battalion FCA Association.

It’s one of three events to take place in the old Battalion area, which included Sligo and parts of Leitrim and Roscommon.

C Company had been based in Sligo since its formation in 1959 until it was replaced in 2005 by the Reserve Defence Forces.

The event is at 1pm in the Sligo Folk Park in Riverstown.

It will include a guest speaker who will talk about 1916 and Sligo’s involvement in it, a flag raising ceremony, the singing of the National Anthem and reading of the Proclamation, along with more events
