Renowned railway historian to deliver Fr Paddy Gallagher Lecture in Bundoran



Ahead of next month’s 60th anniversary of the last train to leave Bundoran, the annual Fr Paddy Gallagher Lecture will be delivered this year by renowned railway historian Charles Friel.

Mr Friel, of the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland will deliver a talk on the railways of South Donegal on Monday, August 21st at Bundoran Community Library.

He will present a talk on the history of the two railways which served the south of the county, the Bundoran branch of the Great Northern Railway which opened in 1886 and the County Donegal Railway Joint Committee’s Ballyshannon branch which opened in 1905.

He will also exhibit rare photos from his extensive collection.

The event takes place ahead of the Railway Heritage Festival which takes place in Bundoran in September.
