More Donegal patients avoiding long trip to Galway for radiotherapy

More and more Donegal patients are avoiding the lengthy trip down to Galway for cancer treatment.

This week it was confirmed that the number of patients being referred from Letterkenny to Derry for radiotherapy is increasing.

It’s part of a new initiative between Letterkenny University Hospital and Altnagelvin Hospital

The issue was discussed at a briefing by the Saolta Hospital Group with Oireachtas members this week.

In June 37 breast cancer and prostate cancer patients were referred for radiotherapy treatment there and this has now increased to 42 patients.

Betty Holmes of the Donegal Action for Cancer Care says it means that cancer patients are not having to travel all the way down to Galway:
