Environmental projects to benefit from funding allocation



More than €60,000 has been allocated for environmental projects in Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim.

Donegal is to get €36,100; Leitrim €16,100; and Sligo €9,520.

The money comes under the Local Agenda 21 Environmental Partnership Fund.

The Fund supports environmental initiatives by communities, individuals and not-for-profit groups.

38 projects will benefit in Donegal, 12 in Sligo and 10 in Leitrim.

The projects aim to improve the environment and improve local communities.

The county councils match the allocations.

In Donegal, An Taisce is to get €1,500, and community gardens in Glencolmcille and Ballyshannon will each get €1,000.

In Sligo, the Sligo Park(ing) Day project, Collooney Tidy Towns and Tireragh Community is each getting €800.

Dromore West Enhancement Committee is getting €700; Drumcliffe/Rathcormac Tidy Towns Committee €676;and €350 to the Benwiskin Centre in North Sligo.

In Leitrim, Flynn Furney Environmental Consultants is getting €3,000 for giving guidance, information and help to tidy towns groups in relation to waste, resource management, biodiversity and wildlife.
