Rovers sign attackers Moorhouse, Faherty and McDonagh

Sligo Rovers have confirmed the signing of attackers Greg Moorhouse, Vinny Faherty and Jamie McDonagh.

Striker Moorhouse (above left) comes to the Showgrounds from Glenavon, having been on trial with Coventry City in England in recent weeks.

Ocean FM understands that champions-elect Cork City were also interested in signing the forward, as a replacement for top-scorer Seani Maguire, who has departed for Preston.

Northern Irish underage international McDonagh (above right) plays up front or on the right-wing, and signs from Greenock Morton in Scotland.

Faherty signs from fellow strugglers Galway United, in a deal that is set to see Jonah Ayunga go in the opposite direction.

The 30-year-old former St Patrick’s Athletic, Dundalk and Limerick striker departs Eamonn Deacy Park after making 170 appearances for the club, scoring 38 goals.

Ayunga’s loan deal at the Showgrounds from Brighton has been ended, with the striker heading to Eamon Deacy Park instead.

Jonah Ayunga told www.galwayunitedfc.ie: “It all happened very quickly over the last few days. In the past few weeks in Sligo, I haven’t been starting. Galway made me aware of their interest, so for me personally, it’s the best place to be.
“It’s about getting game time, goals and helping to keep the club in the Premier Division, so hopefully I can help towards that. Galway have been in good form of late, so my aim is to work my way into the team and contribute goals between now and the end of the season.”
Galway United manager Shane Keegan said: “It’s great that we’ve picked up our goalscoring in the last couple of games, but by and large, we haven’t been scoring enough goals this year. So we were looking to add a bit more in the final third.
“Jonah is very quick and a major threat in behind. Because he’s big and strong, he can also do the hold up play as well. Four league goals this season isn’t a bad return. The real eye catcher was the goal he scored against us up in Sligo.
“With Jonah, it was a case of making sure that if he was coming in, that he was coming in really up for the fight ahead and with the mindset that he could contribute to keeping us in the Premier Division and I certainly think he can do that.”
“Vinny hasn’t featured quite as much as he would’ve liked to in the last few weeks. The freshness of a new club is what he was after.
“I would like to complement Vinny on how he has conducted himself since the transfer speculation began. He has been thoroughly professional in the way he has trained while the talks were ongoing between the clubs. I’d like to thank him for his service to Galway United and wish him well in his career.”
Rovers have also signed Omar Haughton, Benny Igiehon and Rhys McCabe during the July transfer window, while Seamus Sharkey has also been added to the squad since the arrival of manager Gerard Lyttle.

Ayunga, Mikey Place, Kieran Sadlier, Mathew Stevens and Liam Martin have all departed the club since April.

Here’s boss Gerard Lyttle on the new additions…
