Three South Donegal women killed in Louth car crash are laid to rest in Bruckless

The funerals of the three women from South Donegal killed in a car crash in Louth have taken place in Bruckless.

37-year old Racheal Battles, of Ballyloughan, Bruckless, was laid to rest this afternoon following her funeral Mass in the Church of Saint Joseph and Saint Conal in Bruckless.

Fr Sweeney said Racheal, wife to Martin and mother to Killian, Owen, Ellie and Danni, was also a well-known member of the community.

He told how Racheal and Martin set up home in Killybegs where they raised four beautiful children.

They moved from Killybegs to Bruckless three years ago.

Last year they renewed their wedding vows in a quiet family gathering in Saint Mary’s Church, Killybegs.

This morning, also in the Church of Saint Joseph and Saint Conal in Bruckless, the funeral mass took place for 69 year old Margaret McGonigle and her daughter, 39-year old Mairead Mundy.

All are buried in the graveyard adjoining the church.

The parish priest of Bruckless Fr James Sweeney described the deaths of the three women, who were returning home from a holiday in Turkey, as ‘a tragedy that has permeated and devastated the community.’

But Fr Sweeney also said the tragedy had reminded all of the goodness of the parish.
