More than 550 awards paid out by Injuries Board in Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim

More than 550 awards were made last year by the Personal Injuries Assessment Board as a result of claims from Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim.

That’s according to the 2016 annual report from the Board, which has just been released.

There were 302 awards made on claims from Donegal, 166 awards to Sligo and 84 to Leitrim.

The average amount of award paid out nationally was just over €24,000.

Overall, almost 13,000 awards were paid out, totalling more than €315m.

Motor claims made up three-quarters of all awards; other claims include public liability and employers’ liability.

The Personal Injuries Assessment Board is a State body, which aims to quickly deal with claims and reduce costs by avoiding going to court, if possible.
