Sligo County Council says the most substantial part of roadworks on the N16 Manorhamilton road is now complete.
The road which is the main route from Sligo to Enniskillen has been closed at Lugatober on the Sligo side of Glencar waterfall this week causing significant delays for motorists.
The Council has confirmed to Ocean FM News that most of the work which is dependant on good weather and the road being free of traffic is now finished.
However, the reduced traffic speed will remain in place for some days with the possibility of a stop go system on Friday to allow road markings and safety markings to be put back in.
The Council says heavy goods vehicles have been most inconvenienced by the work as they were encouraged to take the N15 instead but traffic is now reverting to normal from today.
