Talks ongoing between tillage farmers and the Agriculture Department

Talks are ongoing between tillage farmers and the Department of Agriculture.

It follows a sit in at the Department last week by farmers concerned about planned payments under the Tillage crisis fund.

There are fears that a cap of €5000 per farmer will be paid out.

However many farmers along the west coast who had their whole crop wiped out following the flooding and poor weather last year say that’s not acceptable.

They state it won’t cover their costs.

No payments have yet been made and it’s understood farmers are not exactly clearly exactly how much is available in this fund.

It’s hoped that both sides can reach agreement in the coming days so that payments can be made to the grain farmers affected.
