Minister fails to commit to retaining two teachers in Kiltyclogher NS



The Minister for Education has failed to give any clear committment to staff at a small school in county Leitrim that is at risk of losing a teacher.

Kiltyclogher National School is a two-teacher school but next year it falls below the Department threshold to retain that second teacher by just one pupil.

Sligo Leitrim TD Martin Kenny raised the issue in the Dail with Minister Richard Bruton this week.

The Sinn Fein TD called for a commitment that until a promised review of the thresholds to retain teachers is carried out by government that the two teachers in Kiltyclogher would be kept:

However, Minister Bruton says he’s not in a position to give any guarantees for individual schools:
