Bishop says ban on gluten-free host has always been Church policy



The Bishop of Elphin says that the ban by the Vatican on a gluten-free host at communion is nothing new.

Speaking on North West Today, Bishop Kevin Doran said it was simply a clarification on principles already established in the Catholic Church.

The Vatican recently said that gluten free hosts were unacceptable, because wheat is the only substance which is authorised by the church.

Low-gluten hosts, however, are acceptable.
