Scheme to help emigrants return home

A Sligo councillor is highlighting a scheme that tries to make it easier for emigrants, particularly those over 50, to return home.

It’s called the Safe Home Ireland Scheme and is operated from County Mayo.

Representatives can meet in the UK with people there who may be thinking of coming home and in need of housing here.

They will also help with the paperwork in applying for benefits and entitlements.

Details of the scheme were given in a presentation this week to a committee of Sligo County Council.

Fine Gael Councillor Dara Mulvey says it’s important people here make family members and friends abroad aware of the scheme.
