Fianna Fail Councillor Tom MacSharry has hit out at Sligo/Leitrim Fine Gael TD Tony McLoughlin over what he called ’empty promises’ in relation to the upgrade of Sligo town Garda station.
In a motion to Sligo County Council at this week’s meeting of the Sligo Municipal District, Councillor MacSharry said Fine Gael let Sligo down by not following up on a pre-election promise to provide a new Garda station in the town.
In a motion to the council, Councillor MacSharry urged the local authority to write to the current Minister for Justice requesting an update on the provision of a Garda station which is ‘fit for purpose.’
Speaking to Ocean FM News, Councillor MacSharry said the current situation at the station is unsustainable. He noted his belief that it is having a negative impact on the morale of Gardaí based in the station.
