McHugh honoured by Taoiseach’s trust in him to be party chief whip

Donegal-based Minister Joe McHugh says his new role as chief whip of Fine Gael will require much work on building relationships.

In this role, one of his main tasks is to ensure that members attend and vote as the party leadership desires.

He has described it as ‘a double honour’ to have also been appointed by new Taoiseach Leo Varadkar as a junior minister with responsibility for the Gaeltacht and the Islands.

McHugh had been Minister of State for the Diaspora.

Speaking to Ocean FM’s North West Today Show this morning, he said it was a special honour that the Taoiseach had put his trust in him to do the job of chief whip.
