Fewer new cars on North West roads than this time last year



The number of new vehicles on roads in the North West fell by over six hundred last month compared to May 2016.

The are 3,200 new cars on roads in counties Sligo, Donegal and Leitrim compared to last May’s figure of 3,800.

That’s according to figures released by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry.

In Sligo, there are 820 new cars on roads in the county, 120 less than this time last year.

In Leitrim, 400 new cars were registered, compared to 2016’s total of 440.

While in County Donegal, there were 500 fewer new vehicles on roads compared to the same time last year with 2011 new registrations currently on the road.

The number of new cars on the region’s roads accounts for five percent of the total of new cars bought in Ireland.

Nationally, new car registrations are down ten percent to 90,000 from last year’s figure of 100,000.
