Donegal man aims to help those in construction sector get their qualifications



A Donegal-based business owner has developed a new training initiative to tackle Ireland’s growing construction skills shortage.

John Power, owner of the Trade Skills Institute, has set up a dedicated training centre in Convoy to provide a range of practical, full-time construction skills courses aimed at fast-tracking people into employment.

He’s hoping to help people who have the exertise and skills in a variety of areas but may not have paper qualifications to show it.

John himself is a trained carpenter with over 35 years’ experience.

He says he learned on-the- job and served his time – college was never an option for him.

The first of the company’s full-time, six week courses starts on 3 rd July and is designed for those looking for a career in the carpentry industry.

The course covers all aspects of carpentry commonly used in homes and on sites across Ireland today.
