Councillor calls for improvement to ambulance response times in South Sligo

A Sligo councillor is calling for improvements in ambulance response times to calls in the south of the county.

Fianna Fail’s Keith Henry says having adequate ambulance bases in the area is important.

Cllr Henry adds that the new primary care centre being built in Ballymote is intended as a support base when resources allow while Tubbercurry is being examined as a possible support base location in the future.

He says crews from the base in Sligo could be in any part of the North West while a base in nearby Boyle is in the Western HSE area and could be covering calls in Roscommon, Mayo or Galway.

He has been telling Ocean FM that when one looks at a map of ambulance bases in the region, there’s a big gap in South Sligo.
