Concerns for people from North West living in Qatar



Concerns have been raised in relation to the safety of people from the North West living in Qatar.

A number of Arab countries have severed diplomatic ties with the Western Asian country over alleged support for Islamists.

Many transport networks between Qatar and neighbouring nations have also been cut with many airlines indicating they will not fly into or from Qatar.

It is believed that approximately two thousand Irish people currently live and work in Qatar with many of them from the North West.

Fianna Fail TD Marc MacSharry says he has been in contact with many people from the region who have family in Qatar and has called on the Government to expand consulate services there to assist those who may have concerns.
