Abbott to relocate to a new multi-million euro centre of excellence in Finisklin

Abbott is to relocate its Sligo operations from its existing base in Ballytivnan to a new, purpose-built IDA building in the Finisklin industrial estate.

The move, involving Abbott’s Irish nutritional devices business, will result in an investment of €10m.

Today’s relocation announcement by Abbott indicates a vote of confidence by the company in its Sligo base.

This move will mean that Abbott will now operate from a brand-new facility in Finisklin while Abbvie, a spinoff of Abbott since 2013 will remain at the base in Ballytivnan.

In a statement today, the company and IDA Ireland confirmed it will enable the consolidation of Abbott’s manufacturing and business support within one building in a new centre of excellence.

The move, to be completed in the first half of next year, also provides space for future expansion.

John Nugent, IDA regional manager, says the move is a reaffirmation of Abbott’s original decision more than 40 years ago to locate in Sligo.

He also says its an endorsement of Abbott staff and management, as well as the building strategy of IDA Ireland.
