‘Water has to be pumped from graves before remains arrive’

A Sligo councillor says drainage is so bad in a cemetery in the south of the county that, sometimes, water has to be pumped from graves just before remains arrive to be buried.

Fianna Fail Councillor Keith Henry says it’s now got to the stage that some people are thinking of using another graveyard in which to bury their deceased relatives rather than use Rockfield Cemetery in Coolaney.

He is now asking Sligo County Council to prepare a report on the situation and possible solutions.

And, as he told Ocean Fm News, the presence of water in graves can be a very distressing sight.
