Western Distributor Road essential, says Sligo councillor

The development of the Western Distributor Road which will link the N4 to the IDA’s Business and Technology Park in Finisklin at the Caltragh junction is essential if Sligo is to continue to attract business to the town.

That’s according to Fianna Fail Councillor Rosaleen O’Grady who sought an update on the road at a recent meeting of Sligo County Council.

In his reply, Senior Engineer Tom Brennan said land acquisition is ongoing.

He also said the design of the road is being updated to comply with current departmental standards.

Final approval for a new bridge over the Sligo to Dublin railway line is also being progressed with Irish Rail.

The project is planned to go to tender by the end of the year, subject to funding.

Speaking to Ocean FM news, Councillor O’Grady says the road is of huge importance to the further development of the area.
