Concern over opening times of North Sligo centre attended by elderly

A Sligo councillor is claiming that elderly people who attend a centre in North Sligo have been told on a number of recent occasions that it will not be open on the morning they planned to go there.

Sinn Fein Councillor Thomas Healy says many of the people who attend the Carrigans centre in Maugherow rely on it for their dinner three times a week.

However, he claims people who use the centre have been getting phone calls after 9 o clock in the morning telling them it will not be open that day.

He says a special Bealtaine Festival was to take place in the centre this week but it appears this is now cancelled.

Ocean FM is awaiting a response from the HSE.

Clr Healy claims there is no support or back-up for the two women who work in the centre when there’s annual leave, sickness or training.

He has been telling Ocean FM News how people who use the cente are affected;
