Easter Commemorations take place across the North West today



Easter commemorations are taking place throughout the North West today.

In Sligo, Sinn Fein will hold a commemoration with a parade assembling outside Markievicz Park at 3pm.

Sinn Fein Councillor Chris MacManus said it will then make its way to the Republic Plot where the main ceremony will take place, and where the oration will be delivered by Waterford TD David Cullinane.

A commemoration organised by People First at Sligo Cemetery started at 12pm.

In Leitrim, the commemoration rotates each year with it taking place in Fenagh this year. People are asked to assemble at Felton Hill for 2.30pm.

And in Donegal, ceremonies are taking place in Stranorlar at 3pm where Connor Murphy, MLA of South Armagh will be speaking, Glencomlcille started at 12pm, earlier this morning a wreath laying ceremony took place at 10am in Clar Cemetry, Donegal Town, and on Easter Monday there will be a commemoration at 3pm in Pettigo,

Minister for Arts and Heritage, Heather Humphreys attended the annual Easter Rising commemoration in Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin.

While the President and the Taoiseach laid a wreath at the GPO on O’Connell Street, the building that served as the headquarters of the 1916 rebels.
